Plane Pull Team 2nd Place of 9 Teams
The long time bloggers seemed anxious to jump on the negative aspects of the changes. I'm taking more of a wait and see attitude.
Of course my decision could be based on my advancing age and supposed wisdom that comes with it, or the fact that I live in a small market where I am one of few United 1K members. I will always be upgraded on my first leg to either ORD or IAD as long as the RJ's have a first class cabin.
I like the fact that I have now have a shot at every domestic flight, where under the old system, I was only good for 20% of the miles I fly with e500's. And the 8 CR1's I earn did not cover the balance of my flying.
And personally, Premium Service means nothing to me. I avoid New York like the plague, so no skin off my nose.
The answers will come when as a 1K I'm scheduled on an A319 or A 320 with limited First Class seats. Will the 1K that bought a more expensive ticket, and has his wife along for the free companion upgrade, swallow up two of the limited seats before I have a chance?
Only time will tell for me. I'll weigh in about next July or August.
Now just make the Systemwides good on any fare and let's get on with life.
Warning From American Express
Several readers have received warnings from American Express about buying coins from the US Mint. Here is a copy of an email I received:
"Hi Rick,
I got a call from American Express this morning and asked me not to purchase any $1 coins from US Mint and deposit them in my bank accounts going forward. They said it is like a loan and they are not in the business of handing out loans. They do not care if I pay off my balance every month or how long I have been a customer. According to them, this is a warning."
Be very careful with Amex cards and the Mint. If you are going to continue, use the card for other purchases as well and for your own good, try not to cross 50% of your credit limit at any time with your card. Just a sugggestion, but I'd hate to see this disappear with all the miles and points we are earning.
No Guarantees Here But You May get United Premier
This link in a fatwallet thread is to an offer for United Premier status after one round trip. Promo code MPS219.
It does require a higher fare class, but I'm sure some enterprising frugal traeller can find a qualifying fare where this will make sense.
Remember the T and C indicate that it is only valid for those that got the email or direct mail. In other words a TARGETTED promo. Try it if you'd like and let us know, but only if you have to buy the qualifying fare anyhow.
The deal is good until December 15th.
